Mountain Ridge Varsity Girls Volleyball -The Sports Collection-

Invisible magic wand duels, mustache faces, somber stares, uncontrollable laughing, cacti skin removal, only a few of the listless moments that this shoot brings to memory.

I had these girls hop a six foot fence so we could access a pretty desert landscape, covered in jumping cholla. Total troopers. As we raced the setting sun I got to capture the loud, youthful spirit that resonates in each one of these girls. Most were rousing, some were cheerful, a few pensive, but each was alive, a sight that left me brightened. On occasion, the age of the breakfast club can annoy me, and even frighten me (3oh3 fan clubs), but an afternoon dwelling in the arizona sun with a pack full of inspiriting volleyball players reminded me that the future is glowing. This is the Mountain Ridge varsity volleyball team.

If you look close you can see athletics in their DNA. If you look even closer they have volleyballs reflecting proudly in their pupils. They are the most sprightliest couple I've ever photographed. Blessed with a lioness like body, Chelaine has been leaping out of gyms and punishing her on court prey for ages. Lately, the SCC volleyball team has been collaborating with her on her lifelong spiking onslaught. Though she might be slightly carnivorous in the gym, off the floor she's just as polite and gregarious as her future husband.

Robbie or "Bubba" can seem rather reticent at moments, but this man is also a beast on the hardwood. I have impulses to crawl up in to the fetal position when he prepares for his air assault on the volleyball court and when I'm the unlucky one on the other side trying to survive. I guess I'm grateful I'm not a member of the real opposition, those who face his GCU team. Anyway, both might be ferocious members of elite volleyball teams, but the real ferocity lies in the bond these two have together. They elicit such a strong fondness for one another, and it becomes rather endearing for me sitting behind my camera, witnessing and documenting their friendship. This is Robbie and Chelaine.
